DRESS CODE 2023-24

Uniform Shirts/Tops/Sweaters/Sweatshirts/Hoodies and Jackets

  • ALL tops must be solid color and have a collar.
  • All tops must have sleeves and cover the shoulder and not be low cut or show the midriff area.
  • Hoodies may NOT be worn during the school day. All hoodies should remain in students’ lockers during the instructional day.
  • Clothing MUST not contain any inappropriate writing/images such as profanity, drugs, and/or RIP pictures.


Uniform Pants/Shorts/Skirts/Skorts

  • MUST be black/khaki/navy blue.
  • MUST be an appropriate length (no more than 5 inches above the back of the knee)
  • NO skin above the knee or undergarments visible through clothing.
  • MUST be an appropriate fit.
  • NO Sagging Pants MUST be worn at the waist. Belts must be worn.


Shoes

  • Socks MUST be worn at all times even with open toe shoes.
  • House shoes are NOT allowed. SOME classes may require athletic shoes to be worn.


The following is a list of restrictions that can be modified as the need arises. 

The restrictions on dress and appearance cannot begin to incorporate all of the current fads and trends for students today. The following is a list of restrictions that can be modified as the need arises. 

  • NO jackets, coats, hoodies, or gloves are to be worn during regular school hours. If building conditions warrant a temporary change, the Principal will establish this.
  • NO purses, book bags or backpacks are allowed in the classroom. ALL bags are to be kept in lockers. Students with medical excuses can be given special permission to carry medications in small purses/bags with medical notes. Female students are allowed to carry their personal belongings when necessary.
  • Bandanas/headwraps/bonnets/headscarves/caps are PROHIBITED unless required for religious reasons.
  • Students MAY carry a pencil pouch for personal items.
  • Students may wear other Conway Cougar attire on Fridays as directed by the administration.
  • Athletes may wear Conway athletic uniforms with the coaches’ permission.
  • The Administration at Conway Middle will enforce the dress code and violators will receive appropriate disciplinary consequences. Parents will be contacted and advised of any disciplinary actions.


DRESS CODE DISCIPLINE PROGRESSION


1st offense- Allow student to call home to get a change of clothes.
Warning given.
If the student is unable to get a parent admin will give them a pass stating that the violation has been documented and they are good for the remainder of the day. 


2nd offense- Allow student to call home to get a change of clothes. 
Do a reminder in the system.
If the student is unable to get a parent admin will give them a pass stating that the violation has been documented and they are good for the remainder of the day.


3rd offense- Allow student to call home to get a change of clothes. 

If the student is unable to get a parent, the student will receive 1 hour of ISAP time.
ISAP will give them a pass stating that the violation has been documented and they are good for the remainder of the day. 


4th offense- Allow student to call home to get a change of clothes. 
If the student is unable to get a parent, the student will receive 2 hours of ISAP time.
ISAP will give them a pass stating that the violation has been documented and they are good for the remainder of the day. 


5th offense- Allow student to call home to get a change of clothes. 
If the student is unable to get a parent, the student will receive 1/2 day of ISAP time.
ISAP will give them a pass stating that the violation has been documented and they are good for the remainder of the day. 


6th and beyond offenses- Allow student to call home to get a change of clothes. 
If the student is unable to get a parent, the student will receive 1 full day of ISAP time. 

Administrators have final decision making authority in the enforcement and interpretation of the dress code. 

The administration at Conway Middle School reserves the right to determine what constitutes appropriate dress. Parents will be called if appropriate clothing is not available or the student refuses dress-code appropriate clothing

YOUTH SERVICES CENTER - CLOTHING/DRESS CODE POLICY


Do’s

  •  Provide Clothing for Students who have accidents. (Spills, female situations, etc.). 
  • Accepts/Completes referrals for students who do not have adequate clothing (via clothing assistance program or community partners. 


Don’ts 

  • Provide clothing for students who are hot or cold. 
  • Provide clothing for students who are out of the dress code unless the student needs clothing assistance at which time a referral is completed.
