Distinguished Band Program

Band Director - Lauren Maxey

Since 2002, Conway Band has earned numerous proficient/distinguished ratings.  In 2016, the band and orchestra combined to create a full orchestra that performed at KMEA and received distinguished ratings! This was a unique and exciting experience for middle school students.

Over the years, we have had student participation in All-County band and EKU Honors Band. The band and orchestra received Superior ratings at Music in the Parks Ky. Kingdom in 2018. We have performed many times in the community, including numerous elementary schools, Sun Valley community center, Jefferson Mall, and collaborative concerts and experiences with area high schools.

In addition, guest artists have visited Conway to perform, present, and work with students from Louisville Orchestra, Louisville Youth Orchestra, U of L School of Music, Louisville Ballet, Ky. Shakespeare, and more. At the 2019 KMEA Large Ensemble Festival, our students earned Distinguished rating. For the KMEA Solo & Ensemble Festival, our students earned  11 Distinguished / Proficient medals for 2020, 12 D/P for 2019

Girls Who Code

Girls Who Game is an extracurricular program created by Dell Technologies with partners Microsoft and Intel. It encourages young, underserved girls to become exposed to the world of gaming, teaching them new ways of applying STEM learning. This is an engaging, technology-based program designed to captivate female students in grades 4-8 in learner-driven experiences to learn skills like computational and critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, problem-solving, and innovation. The girls are then empowered to become leaders in STEM-related fields

Computer / Tech Class

The main purpose of this course is to equip students with basic and advanced computer skills. It ensures that all students are educated on the 21st century skills (critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, problem solving), internet safety and digital citizenship

Students in grade 6, 7 and 8 learn by creating projects using various digital tools. Project-based learning (PBL) enables students to learn about real world issues through practical application of 21st century skills. Students utilize the STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program) guidelines to assist in integrating technology and creating artifacts that are aligned to KYSTE/ISTE standards. Our students have learned to create outstanding artifacts with various digital tools like VR Tours, Storyboards, memes, Flipgrid videos, iMovie, stop motion, Book Creator, Animation, Interactive slides, Genially, Canva, Digital escape rooms, Google Suite, Coding, Typing, etc...

With VILS and new funding for our tech labs, both classes will be STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) based with exceptional use of Spheros, Lego robotics, Coding and Vex.
